Syllabus: | History, review of OO basics, terms and definitions. Introduction to the Unified Modelling Language (UML). Overview of UML diagrams. Introduction to the Rational Unified Process. CRC cards, class diagrams and class relationships. Object oriented design issues. UML interaction diagrams - sequence and collaboration diagrams. Modelling events - activity and state diagrams. UML components and deployment diagrams. Software Patterns. The Rational Unified Process revisited. |

Unit Outcomes: | On successful completion of this unit, the student will be able to design object oriented software models, express a software design in the Unified Modelling Language, understand the Rational Unified Process and use an object oriented CASE tool. |

Unit Assessment Breakdown: | Mid Semester Test 15%. Assignment 15%. Examination 70%. To pass this unit students must achieve a score of at least 50% in the final exam, sit the mid-semester test, have submitted an assignment, have become part of a team before the end of week four and obtain an overall mark of at least 50%. |
