Syllabus:Oral pathology - terminology, dental diseases and abnormalities, orofacial pain, mucosal diseases -infections, inflammatory, premalignant and neoplastic conditions, salivary gland diseases, bone diseases, cysts, clefts, systematic disease manifestations.Therapeutics - pharmacological principles, drug actions, drugs associated with dentistry, the ANS, CNS, cardio-vascular, respiratory and endocrine disorders, antinflammatories, antimcrobials and emergencies.
 
Unit Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit students will have - Demonstrated the ability to recognise and describe abnormalities in the mouth and refer such cases appropriately. Demonstrated an understanding of the main oral pathological conditions and their management. Demonstrated an understanding of basic pharmacology. Demonstrated an understanding of drugs used in dental treatment and precautions necessary to ensure patient safety. Demonstrated an understanding of drugs which commonly appear on medical histories and their relevance for dental care.
