Syllabus:Introduction to various scientific and professional understandings of the ageing process as it occurs in contemporary western industrial society. Human service responses to older people.
 
Unit Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit, students will have- Become familiar with gerontological concepts of ageing. An appreciation of the position of older people in the family and society. The ability to apply this knowledge to your understanding of thesocial welfare needs of older people. An awareness of the range of policies and services concerning older people. An understanding of the historical and comparative dimensions of public policy in relation to older people. Knowledge of good models of practice in social welfare services for older people.
