Syllabus:Focus on promotion, prevention and early intervention in Australia and internationally. Presentation of a public health approach to mental health promotion with evidence based case studies. Prevalence of mental health problems and disorders in Australiaand internationally. National and international strategic directions. Focus on groups across the lifespan- infants, children, adolescents, adults and older people and priority populations including Aboriginal peoples and people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
 
Unit Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit students will be able to - Describe the nature and scope of mental health and mental ill health, mental health promotion and prevention in the mental health field. Identify and analyse a range of public health strategies that support prevention in the mental health field. Discuss risk factors and protective factors influencing mental health status. Identify population target groups, interventions and settings for mental health promotion.
