Syllabus: | Focuses on two introductory modules concerned with the design of small scale framed buildings. Construction and Materials - properties and application of framing components and cladding materials, related 'skin and frame' construction systems. Related structure theory. The undertaking of project-based design exercises, liaise with structural engineers and access related building construction sites. |

Unit Outcomes: | On successful completion of this unit, students will have- The ability to understand and explain some fundamentals of the Theory of Structures. The ability to apply the above to architectural design and evaluate simple structures in timber and steel;. A basic understanding of: small-scale building with regard to: skin and frame construction - resolution of detailing and material modules in building, ideas and attitudes of assembly and making small buildings and a developing understanding of the interdependency of construction, structures and materials in architectural design. |
