Syllabus:Mechanics, translational and rotational motion, energy. Mechanical and thermal properties of matter. Simple harmonic motion, wave motion and sound. Optics, microscope, human vision. Electric charges, current electricity, electrical safety. Atomic and nuclear physics.
 
Unit Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit students will be able to demonstrate knowledge of the motion of an object (linear and circular), Newton's laws of motion and its applications, the relation between work and energy, linear momentum, stability and balance, wave motion and sound, measurement of sound levels, heat and heat transfer, microscope and human vision, nature of electricity in terms of charge, forces, fields, current, potential difference, electrical power, electrical energy and the relationshipbetween these quantities. electromagnetism, capacitance, inductance, ac circuits, nuclear radiation and its application, accuracy and precision in physical measurements and the interpretation of physical measurements and results with respect to the relevant physics involved.
