Syllabus:History of psychological intervention, levels of intervention and analysis, theoretical basis of intervention in individual and family. Skills training development.
 
Unit Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit students will - Be familiar with two formal assessment systems and will be able to apply these systems to case material and within a counselling situation. Develop an understanding of the dynamics of interaction and will be introduced to the importance of self- and other- monitoring in the intervention process. Have an understanding of major theories and techniques associated with psychological interventions, including counselling. Establish the basic skills involvedin the interview and consultation process. Demonstrate how to conduct an effective interview - developing rapport, utilising active listening skills, clarifying feelings and content and summarising issues. The ability to perform self-reviews and refine counselling and interviewing skills. Appropriate consultation skills for specific situations, including some task group facilitation.
