Syllabus:

Podology - Rearfoot Pathologies - heel spur syndrome, fasciitis, apophysitis, haglands deformity, tarsal tunnel syndrome, coalitions and accessory bones. Specific foot fractures, Jones fracture, posterior process fracture, Stress fractures. Clinical - supervised clinical practice. Assessment and examination techniques, therapeutic modalities, case management and clinical discussions. Supervised clinical practice. Interviewing, examination, diagnosis and treatment of common podiatric pathologies. Clinicaltutorials. Concept of total foot care. Relationship of structure and function to dysfunction. Nail surgery - assessment and treatment methodologies, post operative care regimes and management.

Unit Outcomes:

On successful completion of this unit students will be able to - Demonstrate the relationship between functional problems and clinical entities as presented. Demonstrate ability in the podiatric interview and recording of case histories. Developed ability in clinical examination and therapeutic techniques. Make a reasoned diagnosis. Develop a good understanding of the relationship between systemic disorders and their manifestations in the foot. Reinforce and extend the concept of professionalism, patient management and the podiatric interview. Demonstrate the clinical implications of systemic disease to the podiatrist.
