Syllabus:Structure and transmission of genetic information. Maintaining the fidelity of genetic information. Recombination. Gene structure and organisation of eukaryotes and prokaryotes. Expression of genetic information - transcription and translation. Control of gene expression in eukaryotes and prokaryotes.
 
Unit Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit students will have - Demonstrated the ability to describe the structure and function of nucleic acids. Developed the ability to discuss the principles of gene organisation and expression in prokaryotes and eukaryotes. Developed the ability to describe the mechanisms for controlling gene expression in cells.
