Syllabus:

Introduction to the theory and practice of small group leadership. Current research on group outcome and process. Theory of groups and group dynamics. Group design for different types of groups. Development of skills in the design and leadership of groups. Participation in a group experience.

Unit Outcomes:

On successful completion of this unit students will be able to - Demonstrate an understanding of the basic theory of small group design and leadership. Demonstrate the ability to design and co-lead a common theme group. Demonstrate an understanding and appreciation of small group dynamics. Demonstrate group analysis and planning skills. Design ongoing evaluations for small groups. Demonstrate an awareness of ethical issues and applications appropriate to group design and leadership, in particular relevant sections of the APS Code of Professional Conduct. Demonstrate an understanding of the current research related to group processes and outcomes.
