Syllabus: | Advanced individual psychotherapy, with particular emphasis on cognitive/behavioural, psychodynamic, interpersonal, and existential therapy. Skill in the multi modal assessment process. Knowledge of current research on individual interventions. Intergration of theory and practice of psychotherapy interventions and case formulation. |

Unit Outcomes: | On successful completion of this unit students will be able to demonstrate - Advanced knowledge of specified major theories of psychotherapy. Ability to assess his/her own performance as a therapist. Development of psychotherapy process skills and model-specific interventions. Synthesis of personal style with specific psychotherapy techniques. A thorough understanding of ethical practice associated with individual therapy. |

Unit Assessment Breakdown: | Case analyses - (i) existential case analysis 20%, (ii) cognitive behavioural case analysis 20%. Videotaped therapy sessions - (i) basic listening and process focused skills 15%, (ii) 2 sessions psychotherapy (model of choice) 20%. Critical essay or special project/case study 25%. This is by grade/mark assessment. |
