Syllabus:Contemporary ideas and theories of teaching, learning and assessment processes and practices appropriate for secondary schools. Models of teaching from social, information-processing, personal and behavioural systems families. Identifying, selecting and using various models of teaching. Developing an integrated plan for classroom management in secondary schools. Analysing and reflecting on own teaching and the teaching of others.
 
Unit Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit, students will have- Demonstrated an understanding of contemporary ideas and theories of teaching, learning and assessment processes and practices. Demonstrated an understanding of various models of teaching. An understanding of how the interactions between the teacher, learner and environment affect learning. Developed a personal plan for classroom management. Selected and used appropriate teaching, learning and assessment strategies to foster learning outcomes for secondary school students. Selected, used and adapted appropriate interpersonal skills and strategies in a range of educational settings. Analysed and reflected on their own teaching and the teaching of others as the basis for improvement as a secondary school teacher. Demonstrated positive attitudes and values regarding teaching, learning and assessment processes.

Unit Assessment Breakdown: Group Presentation 30%, Personal discipline plan report 40%, Two lesson plans for specific models of teaching (including evaluation) and critiques of the models 30%. This is by grade/mark assessment.
