Syllabus:The subject area - basic principles, concepts and procedures used in curriculum materials currently available. Selection and writing of objectives appropriate to different groups of students. Developing learning sequences in the subject area. Selecting materials and media. Evaluation - student progress, and of the course. Techniques for evaluating progress - place of evaluation in the subject and in the classroom. Provision for evaluation in curriculum materials and guides.
 
Unit Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit students will have- Demonstrated understanding of LOTE methodologies past and present and critically appraised the various approaches. Understanding of their own language learning background, with particular focus oneffective teaching and learning strategies. Understanding of contemporary theories of language acquision, an awareness of the process of child language acquiring and applied this knowledge to evaluate current approaches to LOTE teaching and learning. Become familiar with a range of syllabi and resources available nationally and their relationship to the ALL Guidelines and Outcomes Focussed Education and critically appraised these. Demonstrated competence in the selection and writing of objectives appropriate to different age groups and abilities of students. The ability to design and implement learning sequences appropriate to different groups of students. The ability to develop a range of purposeful classroom activities for the development of communicative competence and integrate the skills of speaking, listening, reading, writing and viewing. Become familiar with techniques for evaluating students skills in LOTE.
