Syllabus: | Contemporary Critical Issues 411, 'Ways of Knowing', focuses on methodologies of various cultural, literary and media studies/theories, together with the methodologies of dissertation production within the contemporary university. Emphasis is on the historically specific cultural assumptions, and on the theoretical premises that underlie such methodologies, as well as on students gaining practical skills relevant to thesis research and writing. |

Unit Outcomes: | On successful completion of this unit, students will have- Reflected on modernist and postmodernist conceptions of knowledge. Reflected on modernist and postmodernist conceptions of self/subject. Learnt the principles of the literature and annotated bibliography as research tools. Learnt to construct sound arguments and engage in reflective practice through the production of a seminar paper. Learnt the conventions of quotation, citation and bibliographical entry, using MLA style. |
