Syllabus:Procedural Programming. Functional Programming. Logic Programming. Object Oriented Programming.
 
Unit Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit the student will have gained an introduction to the principles of programming languages and an overview of the different programming paradigms. Specifically, this unit allows students to study the development of programming languages and paradigms illustrated by examples of major milestones, appreciate the programming languages and paradigms available to programmers and the issues that need to be considered when choosing a programming language, consider the principles and issues of programming language design and investigate tools for program design and to gain experience of a simple programming environment through the use of Lex and Yacc.
