Syllabus: | Management, breeding and nutrition of farm animals under tropical conditions. Prevention and control of common diseases. Presented through a two week optional tour in a tropical region outside of Australia. Students are given lectures from staff at localuniversities and Research Organisations. Dailey feild trips are to local animal production and associated enterprises. |

Unit Outcomes: | On completion of this unit students will have - Described the social, technical and environmental constraints that govern animal production in tropical environments. Explained how cultural beliefs and practices impact on animal production. Analysed the similarities and differences of animal production in developing countries located within the tropics and compared with Australian agriculture. |

Unit Assessment Breakdown: | Post-tour Report (1) 40%, Post-tour Report (2) 40%, Post-tour Seminar 20%. This is by grade/mark assessment. If a student is unable to attend the optional tour then an alternative tutorial program will be arranged. Assessment in this instance will be based on the submission of three assignments. |
