Unit Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit students will have- Described market trends in intensive animal production on a local, national and global basis. Described the impact of price support schemes on markets. Described the impact of WTO and GATT on world markets related to intensive animal production. Explained the principles and applications of animal nutrition and feeding and formulate basic rations for used in intensive animal productive systems. Described the common animal diseases affecting intensively farmed animals and how these diseases are managed. Identified the factors that affect food and fibre quality, for example, factors affecting egg size. Explained the principles and application of animal housing, including housing design and ventilation. Explained the principles of cleaner production systems, with particular reference to waste treatment and disposal. Explained how cultural beliefs and practices impact on intensive animal production.
