Syllabus:Process photography. Printing processes. Electronic publishing - basic premises. Desktop publishing. Experimental design and the scientific method. Psychological testing for map evaluation. Task oriented research methodology. Pilot studies and testing. Map development and evaluation. Advanced cartographic design.
 
Unit Outcomes: On completion of this unit students will have - Comprehended the fundamentals of map reproduction and the components which make up the process, understood the concepts of process photography and its consequence in the process of 4 colour printing, knowledge of the premises of electronic publishing and effectively created and published maps employing desktop technology, employed scientific methods in the experimental design of maps, understood the procedures for evaluating map design through psychologicaltesting, effectively designed tests that critically evaluate their own map design and production, appreciated the advancements in map design technology and specifically in WEB cartography.
