Syllabus: | Exploration of themes including - theories of Aboriginal origin, Aboriginal identity and diversity, the construction of Aboriginality, Aboriginal pre-history in social, cultural, economic, political and spiritual contexts. The impact of European invasion and nature of Aboriginal responses, government policies and their effects, and Aboriginal politics and political activism. |

Unit Outcomes: | On successful completion of this unit, students will have - An understanding of the general features of Aboriginal lifestyles and culture, past and present. Explained the impact of invasion on, and responses by, Aboriginal people. An understanding of the traditional and contemporary role of Aboriginal women and men. Appreciated the social, cultural and economic contexts of Aboriginal art - analysing the similarities and differences between Aboriginal and other Indigenous people. |
