Syllabus:The subject area - basic principles, concepts and procedures. Which have been used in curriculum materials currently available. Aims and objectives - practice in the selection and writing of objectives appropriate to different groups of students. Structure and organisation - practice in developing learning sequences in the subject area. Materials and media - principles for selecting materials and media. Evaluation - difference between evaluation of student progress and of the course. Techniques for evaluating progress in the subject and in the classroom. Provision for evaluation in current curriculum materials and guides.
 
Unit Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit, students will have- Demonstrated a familiarity with the learning area Society and Environment and its associated disciplines. Justified the teaching of Society and Environment and be able to discuss aims and philosophies. Evaluated the range of current programmes, educational systems and methodology in schools as they relate to Society and Environment and the cognitive development of students. Explained and implemented the Curriculum Framework and Student Outcomes in relation to Society and Environment. Prepared and evaluated lesson plans utilising a variety of learning strategies. Planned and prepared for school excursions related to Society and Environment. Evaluated a range of resources within the learning area of Society and Environment. Prepared and evaluated a teaching programme of approximately three weeks. Identified the ways in which values and active citizenship can be an integral part of a teaching program.
