Syllabus: | The subject area - basic principles, concepts and procedures used in curriculum materials currently available. Aims and objectives - practice in the selection and writing of objectives appropriate to different groups of students. Structure and organisation - practice in developing learning sequences in the subject area. Materials and media - principles for selecting materials and media. Evaluation - difference between evaluation of student progress and of the course. Techniques for evaluating progress inthe subject and in the classroom. Provision for evaluation in current curriculum materials and guides. |

Unit Outcomes: | On successful completion of this unit students will have- Discussed current issues relating to the teaching of introductory computer studies and developed lessons that allow students to implement computer-based solutions to data processing problems usingapplications software. Demonstrated an awareness of the rationale and aims of lower secondary school computer studies curricula and evaluated all aspects of lower-school computer studies programmes. Demonstrated an awareness of various strategies appropriate to the teaching of lower secondary computer studies and knowledge regarding the implementation and co-ordination of information and communication technology across the curriculum. Demonstrated familiarity with the major PC-software and hardware products, and their operating systems and discussed current and likely future developments in learning technologies being adopted by schools. |
