Other Requisite(s):Admission: Completion of all units in the third year of the Bachelor of Social Work.
Syllabus:A field placement of five days per week each semester, supervised by an approved field instructor. Students are expected to relate social work theory to practice situations, to further develop a variety of social work competencies, and by the end of the placement to demonstrate a degree of professional competence in a social work role.
 
Unit Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit, students will have- Understood the purpose and role of the placement organisation and its relationship to the broader social, economic and political context and to critically analysed the organisation's role. Identified the needs for, purpose, scope and limits of social work involvement within the organisational context and utilised this understanding to provide a social work service. Analysed and assessed social needs, select appropriate intervention strategies from a range of social work skills including supporting, enabling, networking, counselling, brokering, mediating, advocating, educating, program development, policy critique and policy development. Demonstrated clear, fluent and effective interpersonal communication and written communication. Identified and applied a range of social work theories and theoretical perspectives from the social and behavioural sciences in practice situations. Evaluated the effects and outcomes of her/his practice and utilised this understanding to maintain standards of practice and used supervision to facilitate this process. Demonstrated an awareness of and be able to consistently use his/her personal attributed appropriately when working with clients and client systems.
