Syllabus:The function of law in society. How laws are made - Parliament and the Court System. Criminal law and Civil law. Torts and basic law of negligence. Basic contract law. Rights/obligations under tenancy law. Technology and law - medical science, information systems, forensic science and crime.
 
Unit Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit students will have - An understanding of of their basic legal rights, obligations/duties and the workings of the legal system.
