Syllabus: | Combines traditional illustration skills with mixed media in a digital format to achieve final production visuals. Using primarily Adobe Photoshop and Macromedia Freehand, students will have the opportunity to utilise photographic, scanning and drawing techniques to compose their designs. Lectures and tutorials will also be based on modern digital techniques whilst addressing the needs of individual student outcomes. Opportunity is provided to establish a self directed project and influence the content of student based workshops. A strong emphasis will be placed on project research, development and a folio presentation. |

Unit Outcomes: | On successful completion of this unit students will have- A thorough understanding of digital image design techniques using bitmap and vector based graphics. Developed techniques and established an understanding for image manipulation and digitally composed imagery within specific software. Applied traditional illustration techniques to on-screen compositions. Developed principle drawing techniques within a digital environment to produce and manipulate their final designs. An understanding of colour usage, texture, form, shadows, mid-tones, highlights and how this knowledge can achieve a balance of tones, space and hues within a digital design will be established. Learnt the subtleties of applying details to their design in order to establish points of focus and a depth of field within a given 2D environment. Manipulated photographs and enhanced these with digital treatments. Made accurate briefing notes that record the key components in understanding the processes of creating digital illustrations. Produce detailed digital imagery from pencil sketches and photographic references. Produce accurate 2D reconstructions of referenced 3D surfaces. |
