Syllabus: | Provides students with a definition of pests and diseases. Introduction to pests and diseases in viticulture - basic structure, function, life cycle and damage caused by bacteria, fungi, viruses and insects in the vineyard. Weed pests and their control. Integrated pest management. Monitoring for pest occurrence in relation to vine phenology and weather events. Control options including cultural, biological and chemical controls. Vineyard record keeping including monitoring and spray records. Other assorted vine disorders. |

Unit Outcomes: | On successful completion of this unit students will have - Demonstrated an understanding of the basic differences between pests and diseases. Recognised pests and diseases common to vineyard. Demonstrated an understanding of different control options for vineyard pests and diseases. Demonstrated an understanding of the importance of vineyard monitoring and record keeping. |
