Syllabus:

Key aspects of research and written communication within engineering academic and professional contexts. Developing portfolios and oral communication skills. Emphasis will be placed on ability to work collaboratively in research and oral work. Skills to be developed - accessing and referencing information (the Harvard system). Ethical scholarship. Reflective writing. Presenting and interpreting graphic information. Report writing. Oral communication.

Unit Outcomes:

On completion of this unit students will be able to - Access and evaluate information for research purposes. Articulate the significance of ethical scholarship. Reference their research using the Harvard Referencing system. Develop sound, logical arguments in both written and oral work. Make formal written and oral presentations in clear, concise English. Use the conventions of written reports. Demonstrate evidence of reflective practice in their portfolios. Work collaboratively with others and articulate practices that lead to successful teamwork. Interpret and present graphic information. Read engineering drawings and produce simple technical drawings.
