Syllabus: | Review and evaluation of new development in underground mining systems to achieve productivity, enhance safety and reduce costs. Design and layout of bulk underground mining techniques, vein mining. Stope design optimisation. Equipment selection, production planning, mining costs and ventilation design. New techniques for mine development and production systems, new haulage and conveyance systems, mine automation and monitoriing. Future trends in automated high productivity mining schemes. Scientific andengineering approach to mine design. Input data for initial mine design. Geomechanical evaluation and rock properties, application of numerical modelling and limitations, design methods for dimensioning stopes and pillars. Design considerations for various mining methods, primary and secondary development excavation design, blast design, cost and productivity estimates, stope services design and materials handling. Applications of CAD systems in mine design. Emphasis is on design principles and discussion of case studies to illustrate applications of the principles. |
