Syllabus:Exploration and critique of assumptions and techniques associated with different research methodologies applicability to research in public health. Paradigms of public health research, design issues, ethical considerations, qualitative methods of inquiry and data analysis techniques. The presentation of findings are also addressed.
 
Unit Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit students will be able to - Compare and critically evaluate different research paradigms in public health. Debate issues relating to the design of qualitative research studies in public health. Discriminate between approaches to qualitative research. Evaluate specific quantitative and qualitative data collection methods. Summarise qualitative data analysis techniques. Apply computer software to the analysis of qualitative data. Discuss the integration of quantitative and qualitative methodologies and techniques for research in public health.
