Syllabus:Introduction to economics and health economics in general and in health care. Concepts of scarcity, opportunity cost, the margin, efficiency, supply, demand, theory of the firm, markets, discounting, principles of costing, utility theory and uses of micro-economics.
 
Unit Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit students will have- Outlined the content and role of economics. Interpreted basic economic concepts and debated their usefulness. Appraised some of the misconceptions of economics. Debated the mode of thought underlying economics. Argued the relevance of micro-economics to some practical issues both in health and beyond.
