Syllabus:An introduction to the major movements in fashion in the twentieth century and to the relationship between fashion and art during that century. Surveys such style changes as Surrealism, Expressionism, Pop and Punk in describing the nexus between art and the designers of high fashion. Students are introduced to the major fashion designers of the 20th century and their ideas and practices.
 
Unit Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit, students will have- An understanding of the complex nature of fashion and art and it's socio economic relations. The ability to identify the major styles and protagonists do twentieth century fashion. The ability tocritically engage with these histories and understand in depth their critiques and motivations.
