Syllabus:Economic growth and the environment - sustainable development, theory of environmental externalities, property rights and the Coae theorem, common property resources and public goods, economic techniques of valuation, ecological economics, population growth, nonrenewable resources, renewable resources, pollution and global climate change.
 
Unit Outcomes: On completion of ths unit student students will - Have an understanding of the major environmental issues facing humanity. Have an understanding of the different approaches to economic analysis of resources and the environment. Be able to apply economictheory and analysis to environmental and resource issues. Be able to critically assess different policy perspective with respect to environmental issues.
Unit Assessment Breakdown: Assignment 25%. Exam 35%. Mid Semester Test 25%. Presentation 15%.
