Syllabus:Introduction to corporate agribusiness management. Corporate planning and decision making. Organisational structure. Human resource management. Communication systems. Motivation. Leadership. Control. Students undertake a minimum of 12 weeks professional practice with the agribusiness firm of their choice.
 
Unit Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit students will have- Explained the basic principles of management and recognised the importance of the environment in which management decisions are made and described the process of entrepreneurship. Recognised the importance of strategic planning and the need for and means of obtaining information upon which to make better management decisions. Described the decision making process and its implications for the firm. Described the alternative means of structuring organisations and its implications for the firm. Described the alternative methods of recruiting, selecting and training staff in organisations and alternative methods of remunerating staff. Demonstrated an understanding of the various means to motivate employees and described the communication process in organisations and an understanding of management systems. Demonstrated an understanding of the various styles of leadership and their appropriateness to the organisation and environment and described the various control mechanisms employed within organisations and its relationship to planning. Demonstrated written and oral communication skills through written assignments.
