Syllabus:Fundamentals of nursing practice. Client interaction, communication and documentation. Activity and exercise health pattern. Principles of evidence based practice. Art of caring. The nursing profession, professional role identification and role(s) of the nurse. Australian Nursing Council (ANC) competencies. Aims of nursing education. Introduction to microbiology - modes of transmission and prevention of infection. Standard precautions in infection control related to nursing practice.
 
Unit Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit students will have - Identified self as a member of the nursing profession. Commenced the clinical learning journey. Assisted in the fundamentals of client care. Interacted with clients, colleagues and members of a multi-disciplinary team. Demonstrated the ability to use a problem-solving framework in a clinical context. Described standard precautions of infection control and identify their use in nursing practice.
