Syllabus:The concept of universal design. The relevant Australian Standard Codes and Building Regulations. Design issues for physical, sensory, intellectual and cognitive issues, communication and signage, adaptable housing, transport, aged care facilities and the external environment.
 
Unit Outcomes: Explore the concept of universal design. Assess the suitability of existing and new built environments. Understand the needs of buildings users and examine existing codes and regulations. Critically appraise and, where appropriate, challenge current practices and attitudes.
