Syllabus:Skills to read media texts of Asian countries with a particular emphasis on China, Indonesia, Japan and Korea. A critical perspective on the gendered dimensions of media cultures in East Asia. Asian language students may use language skills to focus on media in an East Asian country.
 
Unit Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit, students will have- An understanding of the major genres of popular cultural forms in selected Asian countries. An understanding of the major concepts necessary for an analysis of Asian popular cultures and the ablity to apply these concepts to a critical understanding of writings on Asian cultural studies. Been able to locate scholarly information on Asian cultural studies from a range of printed and electronic sources and carry out a research project on Asian popular cultural texts.
