Syllabus:Pronunciation, intonation, voice quality, spelling and sound systems. Grammar, sentence structures, syntax and morphology. Word meanings and semantics. Languages which students may focus on - English, Chinese, Indonesian, Japanese, Korean and Thai.
 
Unit Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit, students will have - Developed Skills in transcribing English phonetically, recognising word classes and grammatical structures and using the internet to search for information about languages. Developed and awareness of phonemic, syntactic and semantic analysis, good second language learning practice and the problems facing second language learners.
