Women's health and influences on safe motherhood, parenting and family planning within cultural and religious contexts. Major causes of morbidity and mortality. Vaccine preventable diseases. Gender and development. Program development and application within identified health care contexts. |

| Unit Outcomes: | On successful completion of this Unit students will have- Critically examined global and national factors which have the potential to impact on the health of women and children in developing countries. Critically understand at an in-depth level, local factors which impact on maternal and child health outcomes. Compared and contrasted the major causes of maternal and child morbidity and mortality in developed and developing countries. Described the complexity associated with different classifications of malnutrition and the effect of malnutrition on dietary deficiency and specific disease progression. Conducted an advanced investigation into how the status of women impacts on maternal and child health outcomes. Critically appraised principles of program development within the context of specific maternal and child health care issues. |
