Syllabus: | Ageing demography, current research issues, normal and abnormal biological ageing processes, application of primary, secondary and tertiary health care models, social and environmental influences, life transitions and lifestyle adaptations. |

Unit Outcomes: | Upon completion of this unit, students will be able to - Critically analyse the socio-cultural and political influences on legislation, policy and funding of health and human services for older Australians in primary, secondary and tertiary health care models. Critically analyse research literature on health and social issues relating to ageing populations within national and international contexts. Compare and contrast normal and abnormal ageing processes, and determine their implications for the health, well-being and social engagement of older Australians. Analyse the relationship between the environment and occupations on the health, well-being, life style and quality of life for elders. Apply the principles of primary, secondary and tertiary health intervention in managing life transitions and lifestyle adaptation associated with ageing. |
