Syllabus:The Australian and world flower market. The major flower crops, carnations, chrysanthemum and roses. The wildflower industry. Pot plant production. Annuals and bedding plants. Wholesale and retail nursery management. Plant propagation. Plant production systems.
 
Unit Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit, students will have described and understood the key factors that influence cut flower and potted plant consumption. Described and discussed the major factors influencing the marketable yield of flower crops and potted plants. Described each of the major cut flower crops and potted plant groups. Described and discussed the major variables influencing the intensive production of potted flower and potted plants. Describe and discuss alternative systems of plant propagation. Described and discussed various alternative potted plant production systems. Demonstrated critical thinking through individual study and tutorial discussions. Demonstrated written and oral communication skills through written assignments (projects) (timely, clear, concise, accurate, relevant). Demonstrated an ability to locate, evaluate, manage and use information.
