Syllabus:Sedimentary petrology - transportation, deposition and diagnesis in relation to texture and structure in sedimentary rocks. Sedimentary environments. Principles of basin analysis. Metamorphic petrology - metamorphic minerals, equilibrium, phase rules, composition - assemblage diagrams pressures, temperatures, gradients and facies.
 
Unit Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit, students will have- A comprehensive understanding of the content of the syllabus. Sufficiently completed all practical work and assignments to the satisfaction of the unit coordinator. Achieved a pass mark in any theory examination based on the subject matter.
