Syllabus:

Historical issues and factors which explain the current situation of indigenous Australians. The impact of Federal and State Acts and policies on indigenous people. Oral history - principles and practice. The conceptual framework of an Indigenous Community Management and Development Practitioner or an Indigenous Primary Health Care Practitioner and its application in the local setting.

Unit Outcomes:

On successful completion of this unit, students will have- Identified and related the main historical events within Australia that have contributed to the current situation of Indigenous people. Presented an account of local historical events which havemade an impact on Aboriginal people. Explained the impact of the major Acts and Policies of Federal and State governments on Indigenous people. Collected and presented local information to build a comprehensive picture with others of the local region. Identified current key local factors and issues and the potential for self as an Indigenous Community Management and Development Practitioner or an Indigenous Primary Health Care Practitioner to facilitate positive change.
