Syllabus:

Provides a critical analysis of classic and contemporary thinking by leaders. Provides the basis to knowledge and skills related to critical thinking, decision making, and problem solving needed by the contemporary creative and innovative leader to function efficiently as an individual and as the leader of teams and organisations.

Unit Outcomes:

On successful completion of this unit, students will have understood - the major models for communication and be able to critically engage in the arguments advanced in support of these models, the forms that distorted communication can take. Analysed theconditions that support intelligent decision making and applied the standards of good reasoning in argument analysis, evaluation and construction. Contributed to the optimising of small group decision making. Reflected on the major challenges facing business leaders in the age of information.

Unit Assessment Breakdown:

Class Participation 15%. Critical Reasoning Test 15%. Essays 2 x 2000 words each 70%. A grade of 50% or more in each component of assessment is necessary for a pass in this unit. This is by grade/pass assessment.
