Syllabus:Further development of the foundation competencies for physiotherapy practice. Clinical decision making skills are developed through the appropriate use of statistical analysis and further skills in patient assessment - joint movement, muscle performance, body composition and nutritional status, posture, movement analysis and gait. Further basic patient care skills such as use of walking aids are covered.
 
Unit Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit students will have - Had an introduction to fundamental physiotherapy assessment techniques by understanding the use and application of different walking aids. Explored various issues related to disability, disease and aging within a community based framework. Improved skills at interpreting and contributed to the research evidence on which Physiotherapy practice is based. Demonstrated competency in the assessment of joint range of motion, manual muscle testing, the assessment of posture, balance and gait and the interpretation and statistical analysis of this and similar data. Demonstrated ongoing development of generic/professional attributes including written, verbal and interpersonal skills.
