Syllabus:Employment and professional practice - patient rights, ethics, employment, registration, insurance, relevant Acts, associations, continuing education. Practice management - personnel, communication, quality control. Community dentistry - methods, situational analysis, target groups, strategies, evaluation, resources. Specialised topics - interpreters, oral conditions and child development, nursing caries, disabled patients, dental specialties overview. *This unit is an Industry Experience unit.
 
Unit Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit students will have - Demonstrated an understanding of the requirements for and issues affecting school dental therapy practice. Demonstrated an understanding of the relationships between oral conditions and child development and delivered a seminar on a related topic. Demonstrated an understanding of the dental management of persons with special needs. Demonstrated an understanding of the roles and interrelationships of the dental specialties. Demonstrated knowledge of community based preventative approaches used in the school dental service and delivered a seminar on a related topic. Demonstrated a knowledge of specific patient care procedures.
