Syllabus:Clinical dental hygiene practice including patient assessment, preventive and treatment procedures. Patient information, treatment plans, referrals, consultations. Periodontology - routine care and approaches to managing complicated cases, dressings, suture removal. Dental trauma, mouthguards. Dental photography. Orthodontics - assessment, instruments and materials, care of appliances, banding and debanding procedures.
 
Unit Outcomes: On successful completion of this unit students will have - Performed specific preclinical patient care procedures. Assessed patient needs and prepared dental hygiene treatment plans as a component of a patients' overall dental management. Provided specific dental hygiene care for patients. Participated in a team approach to the delivery of dental care.
