Syllabus:Integrated Design and Construction - Project conception and management, feasibility studies, project organisation and documentation, fast tracking construction, environmental considerations, integration of professional skills, quality assurance and systems, innovative design and construction techniques. Construction estimating - work study analysis. Tender planning, measurement and analysis, construction method and program, cost estimating. Direct costs, indirect costs. Summarising costs. Submission of tenders. Subcontract tenders. Case studies. Ethics and professional practice - professional ethics, codes of ethics, case studies, engineering profession and philosophy.
 
Unit Outcomes: The student will gain an understanding of how the components of the civil engineering course come together. Skills that enable better integration within the profession will be outlined and the skills necessary to confidently approach civil engineering projects will be gained.
