Contact Hours: | 5.0 |
Lecture: | 1 x 3 Hours Weekly |
Tutorial: | 1 x 1 Hours Weekly |
Laboratory: | 1 x 1 Hours Weekly |
Prerequisite(s): | 302775 (v.1) Structural Engineering 162 or any previous version
|
Syllabus: | Theory and design concepts for slender struts. Approximate analysis of beams. Analysis of simple space frames using tension coefficient method. Slope deflection method and its application to beams. Moment distribution method and its application to beams.Virtual work theorems applied to deflections and analysis of indeterminate beams. Use of influence lines on statically determinate beam problems. |
  |
Unit Outcomes: | On successful completion of this unit, students will acquire skills in understanding the structural behaviour of beams and appropriate methods of analysis and the structural behaviour of elastic columns. They will be competent in using the slope deflection and moment distribution methods on beam problems, in analyzing simple space frames, in using virtual work in beam analysis and in using influence lines on beam problems. |
