Syllabus: | Introduction to major features of physical oceanography. Generation, propagation and measurement of ocean waves. Mechanisms of tide generation. Measurement and prediction of tides. Large scale and coastal currents. Characteristics of sea water and disposal of waste in ocean waters. Remote sensing of the ocean. |

Unit Outcomes: | The studen will gain an understanding in the development of physical principles of oceanography, the measurement and analysing of basic oceanographic data - tides, currents and waves, and make appropriate predictions and the importance of the worlds oceans and the need to make detailed study for ecological and economic purposes. |
