Syllabus:Refining chemistry. Distillation of crude oil. Thermal and catalytic cracking of petroleum fractions. Product improvement including reforming, isomerisation, alkylation and polymerisation. Gas cleaning. Introduction to petrochemicals. Environmental aspects of refining.
 
Unit Outcomes: Explain and discuss implications of petroleum processing for chemical engineers at an advanced level. Application of chemical engineering knowledge and independent skills to a range of processing problems.
