Syllabus:	Exploration of the impact of globalism on the development of social policy within and across national boundaries. Examination of economic globalisation and social development on social policy process and its interaction with culture. Comparative analysisof social policies including housing, health, indigenous policies, women's policies, environment, labour market and family, with particular reference to the Asia Pacific region.
Unit Outcomes:	On successful completion of this unit, students will have-Demonstrated knowledge of the processes of globalisation and how these have influenced social policies within the Asia Pacific region, through exploring the concepts of convergence and divergence in policy process and outcomes. Made a comparative analysis of similar and different welfare models and understandings of transferability. Demonstrated an increased awareness of the interplay of culture, context and discourses of power in shaping social policy within and across national boundaries. Demonstrated an ability to identify normative understandings of social development and globalisation discourses and how these affect social policy development. Demonstrated a critical awareness of the way in which dominant development and economic discourses such as Structural Adjustment Programmes, Supra-national agencies (International Monetary Fund, Asia Development Bank) impact on contemporary social policy in the Asia Pacific region, specifically and the developing (majority) world in general.
Unit Assessment Breakdown:	Major Essay 40%, Seminar presentation 30%, Short Essay 30%. This is by grade/mark assessment.
